See this Valentine picture of 1965

Can you beat this?
Loving it up at the beach with these Nigerians.
Gosh, how times have changed. The people here fell under the context of ‘correct guys and babes’ at that time o! I mean, for the guys to understand the need to take their girls out on a romantic date on Lovers Days says a lot. But dang, the photo looks so funny! I was laughing my head off soon as I saw it.
I mean, check out the nwannem on the far right with the ankara wrapper. Was that meant to be a sarong or some sort of swimsuit cover? Hahahaha!!! Then check out the guy in the middle wearing the bell bottoms of life…I mean the player with the two chicks…wicked!! And all of them were just feeling cool with themselves.
After the laughter, I paused to ponder. In 1965, this was what was important to these people. Bell bottoms, afro hair, local fabrics, local swag, love and friendship. If they are probably still alive, they may be very old or even wrinkled.
We have today, an era where Brazilian and Peruvian weaves are important. A time of Android phones, smartphones, iPhone6 and tablets. A time of designer fashion, flashy cars, players, Aristos and side b*tches. One day, everything would look so old and obsolete that we’d wonder why we ran all the race to do or acquire stuff that left us feeling so empty at the end.
We may be almost ashamed to whip out the selfies we took today, for our grandchildren to see tomorrow. Because just like my father’s ancient black and white television which had four legs and a gate, it may become a laughable sight, its trendiness eaten up by the advent of new technology and advanced preferences.
I took a long look at this photo and saw one thing which endured…LOVE. This once young people were in love and full of smiles and laughter. Love will never fade no matter how hard evil thrives. It’s the only language spoken and understood by many generations. It’s the only thing technology or fashion can never modify.
Love is timeless, trendy, vintage and fashionable all at once.
In our quest for the finer things of life, may we never be swept away with those things which will become obsolete. May we never forget that love will always remain. May we love truly and unconditionally.
