NSCDC arrests man for defiling girl

The operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested a 40-year-old man, Daniel Tahan-Gafera, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.
The suspect was said to have also attempted to strangle his victim after having carnal knowledge of her in the Kurikyo area of the Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The Benue State indigene was among six suspects paraded by the NSCDC Commander, Mr. Muhammud Gidado-Fari, on Tuesday in Lafia.
He explained that the arrest of the suspect followed a series of complaints by the parents of the victim, adding that his men ‘caught the suspect while trying to kill her.’
In an interview with Northern City News, Tahan-Gafera, however, denied trying to kill his victim, adding that he merely wanted to have sex with her.
“I had no intention of killing the girl, I only wanted to have sex with her,” he stated.
The corps also paraded a 24-year-old graduate, Mr. Habibu Oshafu, for allegedly breaking into an apartment in the GRA area of Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The commandant added that the suspect was paraded a month ago for theft, describing him as “a habitual criminal.”
He disclosed that three notorious suspects who had been terrorising the state were also apprehended, adding that they specialised in stealing and selling motorcycles in Jos, Plateau State.
He said all the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
