
Police from the Ondo state command, have arrested two suspected kidnappers along Isuada, in Owo Local Government Area of the State.
The two suspects, Abdulmumini Muhammadu and Sehidu Muhammadu, who are brothers and hailed from Nasarawa State, confessed to the crime, saying they were pushed to the crime because of money.
Speaking, 40-year-old Abdulmumini, who said he was a herder before joining the kidnap gang, confessed to the crime and said he was forced out of business over lack of finance to run the business.
According to him, he had participated in three kidnaps since he joined the group and was paid N100,000 as proceed for the first one, while he made N30,000 from the second but had not been paid for the third before the arrest.
He said the leader of the six-member gang, Abdullahi, was lucky to escape while he was arrested with his brother while feeding victims in their captives.
He explained that Sehidu, his younger brother, was in charge of feeding the victims because he is not too strong and new in the business.
He said the police were able to arrest them because they were not armed and said: “I want to plead with the police to forgive us because it was a mistake and I could not leave the gang since joined I the group for fear of being killed.”
Speaking on the arrest of the two suspects, the state Police Commissioner, Undie Adie, said detectives from the state were able to arrest the suspects after a tip-off.
He explained that “On the 29th day of December 2018 at about 18:45hrs oneYemi Ilesanmi of behind Industries, Auchi Road, Ugbe Akoko complained that unknown gunmen attacked him along Auga Akoko/Ise Akoko Road, Ondo State and kidnapped him into the forest.
“The kidnappers demanded thirty million naira (N30,000,000.00k )as ransom. The hostage was rescued unhurt and without a ransom paid, following the Police and vigilante group’s operation on the kidnapper’s Den”
Adie said “Investigation later led to the arrest of, one Abdulmumuni Muhammadu and Saidu Muhammadu in connection with the case.
“They confessed to the commission of the crime and claimed that one Abdullahi who had been on the wanted list of the Command is their gang leader.
“Detectives are still on the trail of the said Abdullahi and any other members of the gang.”
