The Oscars that took place on the 26th of February at the Dolby Theatre Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A has come and gone. It was a show stopper parading the best in the entertainment industry in USA and the world.
The organisers Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences(AMPAS), left no stone unturned to deliver a world class. The show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and the Oscars honoured the best films of 2016.
The greatest awardee is a film “La la Land” that won the most awards of the ceremony with six after receiving a record-tying 14 nominations.
Casey Affleck won the Best actor male with the film “Manchester in the city”, while Emma Stone won the best female actress with the film “La La Land”

The most turning point of the night was when La La Land was erroneously announced as the best film winner – but then had to hand the award over to Moonlight after a mistake was noticed in what was the most dramatic moment in the history of the Academy Awards.

In extraordinary scenes, the La La Land team were halfway through their victory speeches, when it was noticed that the wrong film name had been read out by Warren Beatty and that Moonlight was actually the winner.

Also For the first time in the history of the Oscars, two actors from the black race: Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali , won in the major categories. Mahershala Ali took the trophy home for Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Moonlight’, and also made a new record as the first Muslim to win an Oscar in the acting category. Viola Davis on the other hand who took the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences also made a historical feat as the first black actor to win an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony award.

‘La La Land’ may have missed out on the Best Picture Win but its director Damien Chazelle became the youngest director to win an Oscar at 32 years. Meanwhile, ‘Moonlight’ made history as a black studded crew to win an Oscar.
The host Jimmy Kimmel tried to douse the tension created by the American President over the travel ban of seven Muslim countries. The talk show host said he knew the country was divided and he had been encouraged to say something that would unite people.
It is visible that many stars that graced the Oscars wore a blue ribbon. They threw their support behind the organisation (UCLA) who first challenged President Donald Trump’s travel ban by wearing blue ribbons to the ceremony.

The Salesman won the foreign language film Oscar, allowing director Asghar Farhadi to attack President Donald Trump’s “inhuman” travel ban.
The filmmaker boycotted the ceremony because of Mr Trump’s executive order that banned travel to the US from seven Muslim countries.
Iranian astronaut Anousheh Ansari accepted the award on behalf of director Asghar Farhadi. She read the following statement from Farhadi:
I’m sorry I’m not with you tonight. My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations who have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S.
The Oscars cannot be extricated from political temperature of USA. Nevertheless, it was a night to be remembered.
