Kaduna, Enugu, Lagos, Abia, Anambra top reformed states


Five states in the country last night received awards for been top five reformed states in the year 2018.

The states in descending order included Kaduna, Enugu, Lagos, Abia, and Anambra.
They received their awards from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Awards 2019 held at the old Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja.
Anambra State improved its score from 47 to 53.50 by making it easier to start a business and to register property in the State.
Abia State improved its score from 46 to 53.90 by making it easier to start a business and to register property in the state.
Lagos State improved its score from 48 to 54.90 by making it easier to start a business, register property and obtain construction permits in the State.
Enugu State improved its score from 47 to 56.82 by making it easier to start a business, register property as well as enforce contracts in the State.
Kaduna State improved its score from 55 to 65.97 by making it easier to start a business.
Other companies and individuals that got awards at the ceremony included Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, Corporate Affairs Commission, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion.
Others are the Senate and the House of Representatives, Court of Appeal, Nigeria Bar Association, Nigeria Economic Summit Group, National Assembly Environment Round Table, DFiD, World Bank, Oando Energy Resources, First Bank of Nigeria,
Omotayo Omoniyi, who returned large sum of money found to the authorities also received award at the ceremony.
Other awardees are FIRS, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Port’s Authority, Nigeria Shippers Council, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, Lagos State Judiciary.
Banwo and Ighodalo, KPMG Nigeria, Procter and Gamble Nigeria, Deloitte Nigeria and Aluko and Oyebode also got awards at the ceremony.
Osinbajo said “It really is a pleasure to be here this evening to celebrate the phenomenal successes of the PEBEC reforms but more importantly to recognize specially some of those who made it all possible. In the past three years, Nigeria has implemented more than 140 reforms to make doing business in Nigeria easier.
“Some of the successful reforms include the ability to: Reserve a business name within 4-hours, Complete the registration of a company within 24 hours online, Apply for and receive approval of a visa-on-arrival electronically within 48hrs, file and pay taxes online; and, Access specialised small claims commercial courts in Lagos and Kano.
The World Bank also reported in 2018 that 32 states of Nigeria improved their Ease of doing business environment led by Kaduna, Enugu, Abia, Lagos and Anambra

Photos of $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m Recover by EFCC at a house in Ikoyi, Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today discovered huge sums of dollars, pounds and Naira stashed in an apartment in Lagos state today after another tip-off from a whistle blower.
The commission says it made the discovery at a residential building in the 7th Floor of a four – bedroom apartment at Osborne Towers located at 16, Osborne road Ikoyi, Lagos, where a humongous find of foreign currencies and Naira notes to the tune of $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m was uncovered.
The operation followed a whistle blower’s confidential alert received by the Commission’s Lagos office this morning regarding some noticed suspicious movement of bags in and out of a particular apartment in the building. According to the source, the movers of the bags, make believe that they bring in bags of clothes.

Another source who is conversant with the apartment of interest indicated that some woman usually appeared on different occassion with Ghana Must Go bags. ” She comes looking haggard, with dirty clothes but her skin didn’t quite match her outward appearance, perhaps a disguise”, the source said.
On getting to the building, operatives met the entrance door locked. Inquiries from the guards at the gate explained that nobody resides in the apartment, but some persons come in and out once in a while. In compliance with the magisterial order contained in the warrant, the EFCC used minimum force to gain entrance into the apartment.
Monies were found in two of the four bedroom apartment. Further probe of the wardrobe by operatives in one of the rooms, was found to be warehousing three fire proof cabinents disguisedly hidden behind wooden panels of the wardrobe. Upon assessing the content of the cabinets, neatly arranged US Dollars, Pound Sterling and some Naira notes in sealed wrappers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the funds are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activity.
The facility is said to be owned by Osborne Towers Resident Association.
Investigations are ongoing.

The Acting President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has met with labour leaders who staged a protest to the presidential villa demanding good governance.
The Senior Special Assistant to the acting president on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande said in a tweet that the president’s meeting with the labour members was “fruitful”
He said “Ag. President Osinbajo welcomed & interacted with reps of NLC, TUC & CSO protesters who marched to Aso Rock. It was a fruitful discussion”.
