NO fewer than 3,000 persons in Ebonyi State, comprising unemployed women, widows, artisans, and the less privileged have benefited from the empowerment scheme of a non-governmental organisation named Ebele and Anyichuks Foundation.
The founder of the foundation, Mr. Ifeanyi Odili, said the gesture was to create real wealth by empowering unemployed persons to achieve their goals and improve their community.
Odili spoke on the occasion of the distribution of various gift items to the beneficiaries and the donation of newly constructed two-storey school building on Monday, held at Isu Achara Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State,
He said the vision and mission of the foundation was to add value and improve the lives of the less privileged through the empowerment scheme to enable them to be self-reliant and to safeguard their means of livelihood.
“Over a decade ago, we started this journey towards the emancipation of humanity from the strong forces of underdevelopment and poverty through youth empowerment, social security and economic liberation.
“There is no greater sense of purpose than a deliberate attempt to create real wealth by empowering the youths to do exploits and improve their community.
“The foundation doled out 50 motorcycles, 50 sewing machines, 50 grinding machines, 1,000 bags of rice, 500 pieces of wrappers, and 20 pieces of hair dryers to the beneficiaries.”
The NGO founder, who is equally the Chief Executive Officer of Orient Global Manufacturing Limited, Lagos, said the new school building donated by the foundation would deepen the quality of teaching and learning in the community and beyond.
Governor David Umahi commended Odili for the gesture.
In an interview with Southern City News, two of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nwafor Okorie, 60, and Mrs. Cecilia Njoku, commended the foundation for its philanthropy, saying the empowerment would improve their economic well-being.
