T.Y. Danjuma: Buhari should probe service chiefs – M’Belt youths

The Middle Belt Youth Council has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe service chiefs and make the report of the findings public.
The organisation said that if found guilty, the service chiefs should be dismissed and prosecuted immediately.
The President of MBYC, Emma Zopmal, made the call in a statement titled: “The patriot has spoken very well”, obtained by Saturday PUNCH on Friday in Jos.
He was reacting to an allegation made by a former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), that the military had compromised in the protection of lives and property.
“There is no law that stops anybody from self-defence in any part of the world. Nigerians should stand up and defend themselves when faced with an attack by Fulani herdsmen because there is no government security that will give life after death,” Zopmal said.
He described Danjuma’s statement as coming at a time when Buhari was paying lip service to the alleged dastardly situation going on under his watch.
He said, “If President Buhari is really serious about security issues, he should not waste time to probe his service chiefs and make the report open to Nigerians so as to save our dear country from this daunting predicament and whoever is found wanting, should be dismissed and prosecuted immediately.
“We are very much happy that Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd) has made a landmark statement, unfolding the actors behind the genocide against innocent Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen terrorists.”
Similarly, another Middle Belt group, Concerned Middle Belt Forum, on Friday backed the call made by Danjuma that Nigerians should defend themselves, saying the country was fast becoming a theatre of conflicts.
At a press briefing in Jalingo, the National Chairman of the forum, Chief John Maman, and its Secretary, Oumar Shittien, said the nation was rapidly drifting to the state of anarchy and chaos as a result of the failure of the Federal Government to address the security situation in the country.
“Nigeria has become a country plagued by numerous crises, including increased armed robbery incidents, rampant kidnappings, cattle rustlings, separatist agitations, Fulani herdsmen massacres and revitalised Boko Haram insurgency.
“The hope that the present administration would provide the needed direction and guidance in stemming this ugly development has since diminished to the extent that almost all the states of the federation are fast becoming theatres of unfortunate and avoidable conflicts,” the statement said.
