THE DOWN SIDE OF CAMEROUN’S RISE TO THE SUPER EAGLES

The super Eagles
Whenever a nation with the right ethics of planning, humility, graded confidence, hard work and vision wins a major football trophy, often times than not; it translates into a period of domination of their territorial space and aid an upward movement of their aspirations. The current Indomitable Lions of Cameroun typifies some of these ethics and it should raise some concerns for Nigeria.
Having won the AFCON for the fifth time without being expected to do so; this Camerounian side could possibly go on to dominate African football for the next four to six years.  Now that is what the Super Eagles of Nigeria has to be thinking about.
Cameroun – Unexpected Champions of Africa!
The compact, aggressive and all action display of the Lions will throw any team off balance. I have written so much about their style of play and confidence in the past few weeks that I am beginning to worry about the possible outcome of our encounters with them when the FIFA World Cup qualifiers resume in August.
I’d be quick to agree that six months is a long time in football and that ‘crazy’ stuff could happen before then. All the same, I am of the view that the Super Eagles MUST get at least 4 points off the Indomitable Lions to ensure that they win the group and take Nigeria to the Showpiece in Russia in 2018. We must not bungle our home match against them either in Uyo or Port Harcourt neither must we capitulate in Yaoundé!
It is never too early to prepare for an event and these matches should be very hot on the plates of our administrators as well as the coaches. Gone should be the days when we are comfortable with the term ‘fire brigade’ approach to serious issues or events. It is time that we imbibe, as a people the best practices toward achieving excellence. Without any doubt; football require astute, detailed and well marshaled plans for any sustainable success to occur.

An eagle soaring
Now that Cameroun is Africa’s champion for the fifth time and we confront them in critical world cup qualifiers; we should be gingered to prove that the Super Eagles are exactly what we are – we soar above others irrespective of their current shine!
