Tension in Bayelsa as militants issue 48-hour ultimatum to Gov Dickson over alleged assault

A group of militant groups known as the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) has told Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson to apologise to Ijaw woman activist Annkio Briggs or face their anger.

Dickson has 2-days to apologize or face anger of Niger Delta militants
The Guardian reports that the JRC accused Dickson of being behind an alleged assault on Briggs after she and others were attacked by hoodlums during a recent peaceful protest in Yenagoa, capital of the oil-rich south-south state a week ago over the allocation of 1, 200 hectares of land to Fulani herdsmen for cattle grazing.
According to JRC spokesperson Cynthia Whyte in a statement on Sunday, February 19, should Governor Dickson fail to apologise, “key agitating groups in the state would be activated to undermine the Dickson government.”

The militants want Dickson to apologise to Ankio Briggs over an alleged attacked they blamed him for.
The JRC statement read in part:“Within that 48-hour space, key agitating groups will first renounce amnesty and then commence series of activities to drive home our point and position. It is unfortunate that the same government which many Ijaws struggled and clamoured to win the 2016 elections would now turn out to be a government of tyranny, incompetence and ineptitude..
“It is unfortunate that today, the same bandit elements, armed robbers and unrepentant hardened criminals, who worked against Governor Dickson’s second term are the same band of renegades that would be hired to mug, mob and attack Annkio Briggs and her fellow protesters.
“This represents the fullness of treachery and tyranny. We will not allow this to happen in Bayelsa State, the cradle of Ijaw nation.”
Meanwhile, the group National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators has said that the desire of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to power in 2019 was self-delusion, insisting that the meeting held in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s house in Abuja in preparation for 2019 would not yield result.
On Tuesday, February 13, PDP leaders met in Goodluck Jonathan's house in Abuja, ostensibly to make strategies and preparation to win election in 2019
